Facebook to run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2020

Facebook to run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2020, this was announce yesterday 28 - 08 - 2018. They pledge make its operations run on 100 percent renewable energy by the end of 2020.



These efforts are part of its pledge to combat climate change.

In 2013, Facebook sign a contract  provide for more than 3 gigawatts of new solar and wind energy.

The projects are built on the same grid as Facebook data centers.

This may also include some centers in Oregon, Virginia, New Mexico, and Sweden.

Facebook has confirm the improvement and upgrade of providing up to 50 percent of its facilities with renewable energy by 2018.

This is one of their 2015 goal to support 50 percent of its facilities.

Other Company Going Green

Apple 

Apple announced on 2018/4/9 that its business is now powered by 100 percent renewable energy sources.

The development was announce weeks after Google announce of going green to help cut their electricity supply on global consumption.

Apple currently has 25 operational renewable energy projects around the world.

Totaling 626 megawatts of generation capacity, with 286 megawatts of solar PV generation coming online in 2017.

Google

Google began these efforts in 2017, with the goal of purchasing as much renewable energy as it uses across its 13 data centers and all of its office complexes.

The company says that its total purchase of energy from sources like wind and solar now exceeds the amount of electricity used by its operations.

Google says it currently has contracts to purchase three gigawatts of output from renewable energy projects.

Though not possible to power a company of their scale by 100 percent renewable energy but its a good move.


Samsung

Samsung also announce that his factories and offices in the US, Europe, and China run on 100 percent renewable energy.

In their statement 
In the interim two years, Samsung says it will try to increase renewable energy use internationally, although it doesn’t say what regions it will focus on specifically.
